Chapter 6 Comments

"Lars, just look at these pre-post data on the semantic differential, Mia
said, clearly pleased with the results. Nearly every student a major
improvement in how they felt about people from the countries we were
studying. It's hard to believe how much the e-mails and products affected
how they look at other cultures. I can't remember my students being so
excited about something they've produced."
(Scenario 1, Phase 5, Chapter 6, pg 33)

I liked this quote because Mia talked about how excited her students were about what they had accomplished. In education, it is so important for the students to be motivated and excited about what they are learning. If there is no motivation, there is not much learning. Using the internet to research and talk to other students around the world really boosted the students motivation, as well as their self-confidence. It gave them more respect for people in other countries and more respect for themselves as learners. It gave them a more direct approach to learning about other cultures. They got a first-hand experience of other cultures which is something they wouldn't have been able to do without integrating technology into this activity. Nearly every student showed a major improvement about how they felt about other cultures. Those results alone, show that the overall objective of the lesson was successful. Using the internet and communicating through e-mails not only benefited Mia's students, but also other student's around the world.

This demonstrates that when you intergrate technology to help motivate students, the result is outstanding. I agree with this post because you have to make learning fun for the students in order to get them motivated about learning. When you do that it not only helps them but it also helps the teacher have a better time teaching students that want to learn!
