Internet Activity
Today we are learning about search engines that can help us with our learning environment idea that we picked last week in class. There were three websites I found that I think will be beneficial to me in my search. First of all, I liked http://www.big6.com because it is the most widely known and widely used approach to teaching information and technology skills in the world. It gives you six simple steps and a framework to approach any information based question. This will be very helpful for me since I normally have trouble searching the internet for specific topics when I enter in a keyword.
Another search engine that I found to be helpful is http://library.albany.edu/internet/search.html because it covers three basic types of tools: 1) subject directories, 2) search engines, and 3) so-called "deep" or "invisible" web which are links that exist but are always almost impossible to find using a regular search engine. Having three tools to help me with my search is much better than just using a search engine.
Another search engine I liked was http://library.curtin.edu.au/staff/personal/gwpersonal/compare.html.
This site features six different international robot-drivin search engines such as gigablast, google, sensis, teoma, wisenut, and yahoo search. I liked this link because it has google and yahoo search which I am very familiar with, yet it also introduced me to new search engines I didn't even know existed.
I am glad that I found search engines today that will be beneficial to me in the future. I look forward to using these links to help me with my projects now and when I become a teacher myself.
